Being at national TASH last week was an amazing experience: 1000 advocates from all over, 100’s of presentations, and lots of interesting and unique side events. Participants at my session about how to start an inclusive arts project were enthusiastic, and especially enjoyed the playful improv segment. Now I have a great workshop to share with people in other communities. Thanks to Christina Mueller, Dick Harmsen, Chris Radcliffe, and my family for help and support. Screening and Workshop at 2011 TASH Conference

The film and Inclusive Arts Campaign travel to the 2011 TASH Conference in Atlanta this week for two events. A New Kind of Listening screens on Thursday, Dec. 1st @ 4:45pm. A Q&A with Polly will follow. Visit the Conference Info Table more details about location/venue. And on Friday, Dec. 2nd @ 9:45am Polly will offer a workshop entitled, “How to Start an Inclusive Community Arts Project with No Money”.

Film Receives Award at Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival

At the Closing Ceremony of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, Polly received the “Humanitarian Award”. Thanks to the festival for honoring the film and its powerful message of inclusion. And thanks to everyone who helped in telling this important story and has supported the Inclusive Arts Campaign.

26th Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival – Post Screening Report

At Cinema Paradiso on November 11th, during the closing day of the 26th Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, A New Kind of Listening was given a standing ovation. Polly attended the Q&A and shared two comments from the audience: “This film should be seen by every human on the planet” offered one;and another said, “the film was incredibly moving and shifted my whole perspective on life.” Thanks to the festival for their support. The live audio description at the event was the first for the festival, and helped increase community awareness of arts accessibility issues.

Polly at 40th AUCD Conference in DC

Polly was in Washington, D.C. Nov. 7th for the 40th Annual Conference of the Association of University Centers on Disability – a very prestigious conference indeed! The film was selected to screen in the conference’s Media Room, which had a “disability and the arts” theme this year. After the screening, Polly shared with the enthusiastic audience how the Inclusive Arts Campaign can be used to create more inclusive communities. Two attendees from the Univ. of Texas hope to bring the film to Austin this Spring.

Two Upcoming Events – AUCD Conference and Fort Lauderdale Film Festival

Reminder about two upcoming events. Polly travels to the 2011 AUCD Conference in Arlington, VA for two screenings in the Media Room on Mon., Nov. 7th @ 1pm and Wed., Nov. 9th @ 3:20pm. She then heads down for a screening at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival on Fri., Nov. 11th @ 12:45pm at the Cinema Paradiso. The Festival screening will be audio described.

A New Kind of Listening will screen at the 2011 Conference of the Assoc. for University Centers on Disability (AUCD), Arlington, VA on Mon., Nov. 7th @ 1:00pm. Polly will be attending and take part in a Q&A. The conference is celebrating AUCD’s 40th Anniversary and the theme of this year’s Media Room is “Arts and Disability”. This will be a great opportunity for inclusion advocates from across the country to learn more about our Inclusive Arts Campaign.

Arts Access invites you to the Inclusive Arts Coalition – Lunch and Learn! Arts Access would like to bring together those who are interested in issues related to arts and disability. It will be a chance to network, share resources and unite in shared advocacy issues.
